Ciprofloxacin Injection 200 mg / 100 mL

Indication

Broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic given by intravenous infusion to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including urinary tract, respiratory tract, abdominal, bone and joint, skin and soft tissue infections, and septicaemia. Used when the intravenous route is needed or oral treatment is not possible. For use by a healthcare professional only. Not effective against viral infections such as colds or flu.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin 200 mg per 100 mL bottle

Direction

For intravenous infusion only, as directed by the physician. In adults a common dose is 200-400 mg twice daily, infused slowly (a 200 mg dose over about 60 minutes) into a large vein. The dose and duration depend on the type and severity of the infection and on kidney function. Complete the full course prescribed by the doctor even if you feel better.

Side effects

• Possible effects include nausea
• diarrhoea
• vomiting
• headache
• dizziness
• rash and reactions at the infusion site. Fluoroquinolones can rarely cause tendon inflammation or rupture
• nerve problems
• tendon or joint pain
• and serious allergic reactions. Consult a doctor or pharmacist if you experience any unexpected reaction
• and stop the infusion and seek medical help immediately if tendon pain or a severe rash occurs.
