Indication

Prescription treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including selected pharyngitis or tonsillitis, respiratory infections, otitis media, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

Ingredients

• Cefixime 200 mg per capsule (as cefixime trihydrate)

Direction

Swallow the capsule whole with liquid. Use only on prescription, take exactly the prescribed dose, and complete the prescribed course; the regimen depends on the infection and kidney function.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• abdominal pain
• indigestion
• vomiting
• headache
• dizziness
• or rash may occur.
• Stop and seek urgent care for severe allergy
• a serious skin reaction
• seizures
• or severe
• persistent
• or bloody diarrhoea.

Precautions

• Do not use with cefixime or cephalosporin allergy
• tell the prescriber about serious penicillin allergy
• asthma
• kidney impairment
• pregnancy
• breastfeeding
• and all medicines.
• Dose reduction may be required in kidney impairment. Use only for proven or strongly suspected susceptible bacterial infection to reduce antimicrobial resistance.
