Lipiget 10 mg

Indication

Lipiget (Atorvastatin) is used to lower elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides, and to raise HDL cholesterol in adults and children with primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with multiple risk factors.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin 10 mg

Direction

Adults: 10–80 mg orally once daily, at any time of day, with or without food. The usual starting dose is 10–20 mg once daily. Dose adjustments should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more. Children (10–17 years, Tanner stage II or above): 10–20 mg once daily; max 20 mg/day.

Side effects

• Nasopharyngitis
• Arthralgia
• muscle pain (myalgia)
• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• dyspepsia
• Elevated liver transaminases (ALT/AST)
• Hyperglycaemia (new
• onset diabetes)
• Headache
• Rare: myopathy
• rhabdomyolysis
• hepatitis

Precautions

• Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Use with caution in patients with history of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis
• monitor creatine kinase.
• Discontinue if myopathy is suspected or creatine kinase levels are markedly elevated.
• Interactions: increased risk of myopathy with cyclosporine
• fibrates
• niacin
• clarithromycin
• HIV protease inhibitors
• itraconazole.
• Monitor liver function tests before and during treatment.
• Not recommended for use in children under 10 years.
