Rovista 20 mg

Indication

Rovista (Rosuvastatin) is used to treat primary hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, and hypertriglyceridaemia. It lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and raises HDL cholesterol. It is also indicated to slow the progression of atherosclerosis and to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with elevated C-reactive protein.

• Rosuvastatin 20 mg

Direction

Adults: usual starting dose 5–10 mg once daily. May be increased to 20 mg once daily after 4 weeks if needed. Maximum dose 40 mg/day in high-risk patients only. Take at any time of day, with or without food.

Side effects

• Headache
• Myalgia (muscle pain)
• Nausea
• abdominal pain
• constipation
• Elevated liver transaminases
• Proteinuria (at higher doses)
• Hyperglycaemia
• Rare: myopathy
• rhabdomyolysis

Precautions

• Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained elevated serum transaminases.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Use with caution in patients at risk for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis
• risk increases with higher doses.
• Dose of 40 mg is contraindicated in patients with predisposing factors for myopathy.
• Asian patients may have higher plasma levels
• use lower starting doses.
• Interactions: avoid with cyclosporine
• increased myopathy risk with fibrates
• niacin
• antacids.
• Monitor renal function and creatine kinase in at
• risk patients.
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
