Fenosel 200 mg

Indication

Fenosel (Fenofibrate) is used as an adjunct to diet and other lipid-lowering treatments in adults with severe hypertriglyceridaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, or primary hypercholesterolaemia. It reduces triglycerides and LDL cholesterol while increasing HDL cholesterol.

Ingredients

• Fenofibrate 200 mg

Direction

Adults: 200 mg (micronised capsule) once daily with a meal. Dose adjustment required in renal impairment. Not indicated in children.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal upset (nausea
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea)
• Elevated liver transaminases
• Myalgia
• myopathy (rare)
• Rash
• photosensitivity
• Headache
• Rare: rhabdomyolysis
• pancreatitis

Precautions

• Contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic impairment
• gallbladder disease
• and hypersensitivity to fenofibrate.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Increased risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis
• especially when combined with statins.
• Monitor liver function tests periodically.
• Discontinue if gallstones are suspected.
• Interactions: may potentiate anticoagulant effect of warfarin
• monitor INR.
• Not recommended in children.
