Bestatin 20 mg

Indication

Bestatin (Atorvastatin) is used to lower elevated levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, and to raise HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia. It also reduces cardiovascular risk (myocardial infarction, stroke) in high-risk patients.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin 20 mg

Direction

Adults: usual starting dose 10–20 mg once daily. Dose may be adjusted at 4-week intervals up to 80 mg once daily. Take at any time of day, with or without food.

Side effects

• Nasopharyngitis
• Myalgia (muscle pain)
• Arthralgia
• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• dyspepsia
• Elevated liver transaminases
• Hyperglycaemia
• Headache
• Rare: myopathy
• rhabdomyolysis

Precautions

• Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of serum transaminases.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Use with caution in patients with history of myopathy
• monitor creatine kinase.
• Interactions: increased risk of myopathy with cyclosporine
• fibrates
• niacin
• clarithromycin
• HIV protease inhibitors.
• Monitor liver function tests before and during treatment.
