Advantec 16 mg + 12.5 mg

Indication

Advantec (Candesartan + Hydrochlorothiazide) is used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on candesartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy.

Ingredients

• Candesartan cilexetil 16 mg
• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Direction

Adults: one tablet (16 mg/12.5 mg) once daily. The dose may be increased to candesartan 32 mg/hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg or 32 mg/25 mg if needed. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Dizziness
• headache
• Hypotension (especially with first dose)
• Hypokalaemia
• hyponatraemia
• Elevated serum creatinine
• Hyperuricaemia
• gout
• Nasopharyngitis
• upper respiratory infection
• Rare: angioedema
• renal impairment

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to candesartan
• hydrochlorothiazide
• or sulphonamide
• derived drugs.
• Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min)
• severe hepatic impairment
• refractory hypokalaemia
• and hypercalcaemia.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy (especially 2nd and 3rd trimester) and breastfeeding.
• Monitor serum electrolytes (potassium
• sodium)
• renal function
• and blood pressure regularly.
• Use with caution in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis
• heart failure
• or volume depletion.
• Interactions: combined with potassium
• sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may cause hyperkalaemia
• NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect.
• May cause photosensitivity reactions (hydrochlorothiazide component).
