Glumin 500 500 mg

Indication

Glumin 500 contains Metformin hydrochloride, a biguanide antidiabetic agent used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when dietary control and exercise alone are insufficient. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: Initially 500 mg once or twice daily with meals, increasing gradually as tolerated to a usual dose of 1500–2000 mg/day in divided doses. Maximum dose: 3000 mg/day. Take with or after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Side effects

• Very common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• loss of appetite (usually transient
• occurs at start of treatment).
• Common: metallic taste.
• Rare: lactic acidosis (serious — seek immediate medical attention).
• Very rare: vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term use.
• Rare: skin reactions such as erythema
• pruritus
• urticaria.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
• Contraindicated in hepatic impairment.
• Discontinue before iodinated contrast procedures and resume 48 hours after if renal function is stable.
• Risk of lactic acidosis
• discontinue if dehydration
• excessive alcohol intake
• or acute illness occurs.
• Monitor renal function periodically.
• Use with caution in elderly patients.
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
• Not recommended in patients with heart failure requiring drug treatment.
