Coveram 5mg / 10mg

Indication

Coveram is a combination antihypertensive containing an ACE inhibitor (Perindopril) and a calcium channel blocker (Amlodipine). It is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and/or stable coronary artery disease in adults whose blood pressure is already controlled on perindopril and amlodipine given concurrently.

Ingredients

• Perindopril arginine 5 mg
• Amlodipine 10 mg

Direction

Adults: One tablet once daily, orally, at the same time each day. Swallow with water. Dosage adjustment should be guided by a physician.

Side effects

• Common: headache
• dizziness
• somnolence
• palpitations
• flushing
• oedema.
• Common: dry cough
• dyspnoea.
• Common: nausea
• abdominal pain
• diarrhoea
• constipation.
• Uncommon: angioedema (serious — stop immediately and seek emergency care).
• Uncommon: hypotension
• syncope.
• Rare: severe skin reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to perindopril
• other ACE inhibitors
• or amlodipine.
• Contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy.
• Contraindicated during pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters) and lactation.
• Contraindicated in combination with aliskiren in diabetic patients.
• Monitor renal function
• electrolytes
• and blood pressure regularly.
• Risk of hypotension
• especially in volume
• depleted patients.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Hyperkalaemia may occur
• caution with potassium
• sparing diuretics or potassium supplements.
• May cause dry cough (ACE inhibitor class effect).
