Clamide 5 mg

Indication

Clamide contains Glibenclamide (also known as Glyburide), a second-generation sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are insufficient, as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetics.

Ingredients

• Glibenclamide 5 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 2.5–5 mg once daily with breakfast or the first main meal. May be adjusted at weekly intervals by 2.5 mg increments. Usual maintenance dose: 5–10 mg/day. Maximum dose: 15 mg/day. Take at the same time each day.

Side effects

• Common: hypoglycaemia (dizziness
• sweating
• shakiness
• hunger).
• Uncommon: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort.
• Uncommon: skin reactions (rash
• pruritus
• urticaria).
• Rare: severe hypoglycaemia
• blood dyscrasias (thrombocytopenia
• agranulocytosis).
• Rare: cholestatic jaundice
• hepatitis.
• Uncommon: headache
• weight gain.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus
• diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Contraindicated in severe renal
• hepatic
• or adrenal impairment.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Risk of hypoglycaemia
• especially with missed meals
• excessive exercise
• or alcohol.
• Use with caution in elderly patients due to prolonged hypoglycaemia risk.
• Concomitant use with fluconazole
• NSAIDs
• or other hypoglycaemic agents increases hypoglycaemia risk.
• Monitor blood glucose regularly.
