Betaloc ZOK 25 25 mg

Indication

Betaloc ZOK 25 contains Metoprolol succinate in an extended-release formulation. It is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker used in the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, and stable symptomatic heart failure.

Direction

Adults: For hypertension and angina, 25–100 mg once daily, orally. For heart failure, start at 12.5–25 mg once daily and titrate upward under medical supervision. Tablets should be swallowed whole (not chewed or crushed) with water.

Side effects

• Common: fatigue
• dizziness
• headache
• bradycardia.
• Common: nausea
• diarrhoea
• constipation
• abdominal pain.
• Common: cold extremities.
• Uncommon: hypotension
• heart failure exacerbation.
• Uncommon: depression
• sleep disturbances
• nightmares.
• Rare: bronchospasm
• thrombocytopenia
• severe skin reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock
• uncompensated heart failure
• second/third
• degree AV block
• severe bradycardia
• sick sinus syndrome.
• Do not abruptly discontinue — taper gradually over 1–2 weeks.
• Use with caution in asthma and COPD (bronchospasm may occur).
• May mask signs of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients.
• Use with caution in peripheral arterial disease.
• Caution with concomitant use of verapamil
• diltiazem
• or other antiarrhythmics.
