Advantec 16/12.5 16 mg + 12.5 mg

Indication

Advantec 16/12.5 is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive containing an angiotensin II receptor blocker (Candesartan) and a thiazide diuretic (Hydrochlorothiazide) used to treat essential hypertension in adults when both components at these doses are appropriate.

Ingredients

• Candesartan cilexetil 16 mg
• Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg

Direction

Adults: One tablet once daily, orally. Take with or without food. Swallow with water.

Side effects

• Common: dizziness
• headache.
• Common: electrolyte disturbances (hypokalaemia
• hyponatraemia
• hypochloraemia).
• Common: hyperuricaemia
• glucose intolerance.
• Uncommon: hypotension
• renal impairment.
• Uncommon: nausea
• diarrhoea.
• Rare: angioedema (stop immediately and seek emergency care).
• Rare: photosensitivity reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to candesartan
• hydrochlorothiazide
• or sulphonamide
• derived drugs.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy (2nd and 3rd trimesters) and breastfeeding.
• Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min)
• anuria
• and severe hepatic impairment.
• Do not combine with aliskiren in diabetic patients or those with renal impairment.
• Monitor serum electrolytes (especially potassium and sodium) and renal function.
• Risk of hypokalaemia with diuretic component.
• Caution with lithium co
• administration.
