Lopid 300 300 mg

Indication

Lopid 300 contains Gemfibrozil, a fibric acid derivative (fibrate) lipid-regulating agent used as adjunct to diet to treat hypertriglyceridaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia, and to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in patients with combined hyperlipidaemia.

Ingredients

• Gemfibrozil 300 mg

Direction

Adults: 600 mg twice daily orally, taken 30 minutes before the morning and evening meals. Alternatively, 900–1200 mg/day in divided doses.

Side effects

• Common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• dyspepsia.
• Common: headache
• dizziness
• fatigue.
• Uncommon: myalgia
• myopathy (especially with concomitant statin).
• Rare: rhabdomyolysis (serious — stop and seek immediate care).
• Uncommon: cholelithiasis (gallstones).
• Rare: severe skin reactions
• blood dyscrasias.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in severe hepatic or renal impairment.
• Contraindicated in gallbladder disease (may increase risk of gallstones).
• Contraindicated in combination with repaglinide (risk of severe hypoglycaemia).
• Avoid concomitant use with statins (increased risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis).
• Monitor liver function and creatine kinase.
• Use with caution with anticoagulants (warfarin) — may enhance effect.
• Monitor renal function in patients at risk.
