Diane 35 Cyproterone Acetate 2 mg, Ethinylestradiol 35 mcg

Indication

Diane-35 is a combined oral contraceptive and anti-androgen preparation. It is indicated in women for the treatment of androgen-dependent conditions such as moderate-to-severe acne and hirsutism, and also provides contraception.

Ingredients

• Cyproterone acetate 2 mg
• Ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms

Direction

Adults (women): Take one tablet daily for 21 days starting on the first day of the menstrual cycle, followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval. Restart the next cycle after the 7-day break. Take at the same time each day.

Side effects

• Common: nausea
• abdominal pain
• headache
• mood changes.
• Common: breast tenderness
• breakthrough bleeding
• amenorrhoea.
• Common: weight changes.
• Uncommon: depression
• decreased libido.
• Rare: venous or arterial thromboembolic events (serious — seek immediate care).
• Rare: hypertension
• liver disorders
• contact lens intolerance.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in current or history of venous/arterial thromboembolism.
• Contraindicated in history of or current stroke
• migraine with aura.
• Contraindicated in severe hepatic disease or liver tumours.
• Contraindicated in undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
• Contraindicated in known or suspected sex
• steroid sensitive malignancies.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Contraindicated in pancreatitis with hypertriglyceridaemia.
• Smoking significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects.
• Regular blood pressure monitoring required.
• Not to be used concomitantly with other hormonal contraceptives.
