Indication
Diane-35 is a combined oral contraceptive and anti-androgen preparation. It is indicated in women for the treatment of androgen-dependent conditions such as moderate-to-severe acne and hirsutism, and also provides contraception.
Ingredients
- Cyproterone acetate 2 mg
- Ethinylestradiol 35 micrograms
Direction
Adults (women): Take one tablet daily for 21 days starting on the first day of the menstrual cycle, followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval. Restart the next cycle after the 7-day break. Take at the same time each day.
Side effects
- Common: nausea
- abdominal pain
- headache
- mood changes.
- Common: breast tenderness
- breakthrough bleeding
- amenorrhoea.
- Common: weight changes.
- Uncommon: depression
- decreased libido.
- Rare: venous or arterial thromboembolic events (serious — seek immediate care).
- Rare: hypertension
- liver disorders
- contact lens intolerance.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in current or history of venous/arterial thromboembolism.
- Contraindicated in history of or current stroke
- migraine with aura.
- Contraindicated in severe hepatic disease or liver tumours.
- Contraindicated in undiagnosed vaginal bleeding.
- Contraindicated in known or suspected sex
- steroid sensitive malignancies.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Contraindicated in pancreatitis with hypertriglyceridaemia.
- Smoking significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects.
- Regular blood pressure monitoring required.
- Not to be used concomitantly with other hormonal contraceptives.
