OXY-NASE Nasal Spray 0.05% w/v Oxymetazoline HCl

Indication

OXY-NASE Nasal Spray contains Oxymetazoline, a topical alpha-adrenergic decongestant used for the symptomatic relief of nasal congestion due to colds, sinusitis, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies.

Ingredients

• Oxymetazoline hydrochloride 0.05% w/v

Direction

Adults and children aged 6 years and over: 2–3 sprays into each nostril twice daily (morning and evening). Do not use for more than 3–5 consecutive days. Children under 6 years: use only under medical supervision.

Side effects

• Common: nasal burning
• stinging
• dryness
• and local irritation.
• Common: sneezing after application.
• Uncommon: rebound nasal congestion with prolonged use.
• Uncommon: headache.
• Rare: systemic effects (tachycardia
• palpitations
• hypertension) with excessive use or systemic absorption.

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 3–5 consecutive days — risk of rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
• Contraindicated in patients with narrow
• angle glaucoma.
• Use with caution in cardiovascular disease
• hypertension
• hyperthyroidism
• and diabetes.
• Caution with MAO inhibitors.
• Avoid in patients with atrophic rhinitis.
• Not for use in children under 6 without medical advice.
• For nasal use only — avoid swallowing.
