Indication
Avamys contains Fluticasone furoate, an intranasal corticosteroid used for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 2 years and over.
Ingredients
- Fluticasone furoate 27.5 micrograms per spray
Direction
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: 2 sprays (55 mcg) into each nostril once daily. May reduce to 1 spray per nostril once symptoms are controlled. Children aged 2–11 years: 1 spray per nostril once daily. Prime the pump before first use. Shake gently before each use.
Side effects
- Very common: epistaxis (nasal bleeding).
- Common: headache
- nasal ulceration
- nasal dryness
- nasal irritation.
- Uncommon: nasal septal perforation.
- Rare: raised intraocular pressure
- cataracts
- glaucoma.
- Rare: Cushingoid features with high doses.
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with untreated nasal infections or recent nasal surgery.
- Caution with ritonavir and cobicistat (increases systemic steroid exposure).
- Growth retardation in children — use the lowest effective dose.
- May unmask adrenal insufficiency when switching from oral steroids.
- Monitor nasal mucosa with long
