Indication

Avamys contains Fluticasone furoate, an intranasal corticosteroid used for the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 2 years and over.

Ingredients

• Fluticasone furoate 27.5 micrograms per spray

Direction

Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: 2 sprays (55 mcg) into each nostril once daily. May reduce to 1 spray per nostril once symptoms are controlled. Children aged 2–11 years: 1 spray per nostril once daily. Prime the pump before first use. Shake gently before each use.

Side effects

• Very common: epistaxis (nasal bleeding).
• Common: headache
• nasal ulceration
• nasal dryness
• nasal irritation.
• Uncommon: nasal septal perforation.
• Rare: raised intraocular pressure
• cataracts
• glaucoma.
• Rare: Cushingoid features with high doses.

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with untreated nasal infections or recent nasal surgery.
• Caution with ritonavir and cobicistat (increases systemic steroid exposure).
• Growth retardation in children — use the lowest effective dose.
• May unmask adrenal insufficiency when switching from oral steroids.
• Monitor nasal mucosa with long
