Indication
METRO-MS 250 contains metronidazole, indicated for treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, protozoal infections (giardiasis, amoebiasis, trichomoniasis), Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination), and prevention of post-operative anaerobic infections.
Ingredients
- Metronidazole 250 mg
Direction
Adults: for bacterial infections, 400–500 mg (2 tablets) every 8 hours for 7 days. For trichomoniasis: 2 g (8 tablets) as a single dose or 250 mg 3 times daily for 7 days. Children: approximately 7.5 mg/kg per dose 3 times daily; consult a physician. Take with or after food.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- and metallic taste.
- Abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
- Headache and dizziness.
- Dark/discoloured urine.
- Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
- Allergic reactions (rare).
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after completion (disulfiram
- like reaction).
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- May interact with warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect).
- Use with caution in patients with neurological disorders.
- Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
- Complete the full course of treatment.
