METRO-MS 250 250 mg

Indication

METRO-MS 250 contains metronidazole, indicated for treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, protozoal infections (giardiasis, amoebiasis, trichomoniasis), Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination), and prevention of post-operative anaerobic infections.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 250 mg

Direction

Adults: for bacterial infections, 400–500 mg (2 tablets) every 8 hours for 7 days. For trichomoniasis: 2 g (8 tablets) as a single dose or 250 mg 3 times daily for 7 days. Children: approximately 7.5 mg/kg per dose 3 times daily; consult a physician. Take with or after food.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and metallic taste.
• Abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
• Headache and dizziness.
• Dark/discoloured urine.
• Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
• Allergic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after completion (disulfiram
• like reaction).
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• May interact with warfarin (increased anticoagulant effect).
• Use with caution in patients with neurological disorders.
• Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
