CIPROTEX 500 mg

Indication

CIPROTEX contains ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and typhoid fever.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin HCl 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg twice daily (or 250–750 mg depending on severity and indication) for 5–14 days. Take with water; may be taken with or without food. Maintain adequate fluid intake.

Side effects

• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Diarrhoea.
• Headache and dizziness.
• Photosensitivity.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare but serious).
• Peripheral neuropathy (rare).
• Allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones.
• Not recommended in children and adolescents under 18 years (risk of joint/cartilage damage)

• Risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
• discontinue if tendon pain occurs.
• Avoid in patients with history of QT prolongation.
• May lower seizure threshold
• use with caution in epileptics.
• Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity).
• Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Antacids
• dairy products
• and iron supplements reduce absorption — take 2 hours apart.
