CREAZOL Métronidazole (250 mg)

Indication

CREAZOL contains metronidazole, a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent. It is indicated for treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination therapy).

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 250 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg 3 times daily for 5–10 days depending on the indication. For trichomoniasis: 2 g as a single dose or 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Children: approximately 7.5 mg/kg per dose 3 times daily. Take with food to reduce GI upset.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and metallic taste.
• Abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
• Headache and dizziness.
• Dark
• coloured urine.
• Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged high
• dose therapy.

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after the last dose (disulfiram
• like reaction).
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment.
• Risk of peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
• May interact with warfarin and lithium.
• Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
