Indication
CREAZOL contains metronidazole, a nitroimidazole antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent. It is indicated for treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination therapy).
Ingredients
- Metronidazole 250 mg
Direction
Adults: 250–500 mg 3 times daily for 5–10 days depending on the indication. For trichomoniasis: 2 g as a single dose or 500 mg twice daily for 7 days. Children: approximately 7.5 mg/kg per dose 3 times daily. Take with food to reduce GI upset.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- and metallic taste.
- Abdominal cramps and diarrhoea.
- Headache and dizziness.
- Dark
- coloured urine.
- Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged high
- dose therapy.
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after the last dose (disulfiram
- like reaction).
- Use with caution in hepatic impairment.
- Risk of peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
- May interact with warfarin and lithium.
- Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
- Complete the full course of treatment.
