CLOXACAP 500 Cloxacillin B.P. 500 mg

Indication

CLOXACAP 500 contains cloxacillin, a penicillinase-resistant (beta-lactamase-stable) penicillin antibiotic. It is specifically indicated for infections caused by penicillinase-producing staphylococci, including skin and soft tissue infections, wound infections, osteomyelitis, and respiratory tract infections due to staphylococci.

Ingredients

• Cloxacillin sodium 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours (4 times daily) on an empty stomach, at least 30–60 minutes before meals. Treatment duration varies with infection severity. Children under 20 kg: 50 mg/kg/day in divided doses.

Side effects

• Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort.
• Diarrhoea.
• Skin rash.
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).
• Elevated liver enzymes.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity.
• Take on an empty stomach — food reduces absorption significantly.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
• Not active against methicillin
• resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
