Lincomycine 500 mg

Indication

Lincomycine contains lincomycin, a lincosamide antibiotic used as an alternative to penicillin for gram-positive bacterial infections in patients allergic to penicillins. Indications include respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis), and dental infections.

Ingredients

• Lincomycin HCl 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg (1 capsule) 3–4 times daily. Take at least 1–2 hours before or after meals as food reduces absorption significantly. Complete the full course of treatment.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and abdominal cramps.
• Diarrhoea (including pseudomembranous colitis — potentially severe).
• Skin rash.
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• Allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with lincomycin or clindamycin hypersensitivity.
• Risk of Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea and pseudomembranous colitis — discontinue if severe diarrhoea occurs.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical advice.
• Take on an empty stomach for optimal absorption.
