STARCEF 200 Cefixime 200 mg

Indication

STARCEF 200 contains cefixime, a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic used for treatment of urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, gonorrhoea, and typhoid fever.

Ingredients

• Cefixime 200 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 50 kg: 200–400 mg once daily or in two divided doses for 7–14 days. Children under 50 kg: 8 mg/kg/day in one or two divided doses. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea (common).
• Nausea and abdominal discomfort.
• Skin rash.
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• Allergic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy (cross
• reactivity possible).
• Dose adjustment in renal impairment.
• Risk of antibiotic
• associated diarrhoea.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• May interact with anticoagulants (warfarin).
