AMPIMASTER Ampicillin 500 mg

Indication

AMPIMASTER contains ampicillin, a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic used for treatment of urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, meningitis, septicaemia, and endocarditis (as part of combination therapy).

Ingredients

• Ampicillin trihydrate 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours (4 times daily) on an empty stomach (30–60 minutes before meals). Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Complete the full course of treatment.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash.
• Candidiasis.
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity.
• Take on an empty stomach — food reduces absorption.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• Risk of maculopapular rash in patients with glandular fever.
• Not active against beta
• lactamase
• producing organisms.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
