ECOTHROCIN 500 Azithromycin USP 500 mg

Indication

ECOTHROCIN 500 contains azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic used for community-acquired pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, skin and soft tissue infections, chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and H. pylori eradication (as part of combination therapy).

Ingredients

• Azithromycin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days (or 500 mg on day 1, then 250 mg once daily on days 2–5, depending on indication). For uncomplicated chlamydia: 1 g as a single dose. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and abdominal discomfort.
• Diarrhoea.
• Headache.
• QT prolongation and cardiac arrhythmia (rare but serious).
• Elevated liver enzymes.
• Skin rash.
• Hearing loss (with prolonged or high
• dose use).

Precautions

• QT prolongation risk — avoid in patients with arrhythmia or taking other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Drug interactions: warfarin
• digoxin
• ergotamine
• ciclosporin.
• Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
