Amoxicilin 250mg / 5mL

Indication

Amoxicillin suspension is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used for treatment of bacterial infections including upper and lower respiratory tract infections (otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, and skin infections.

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin 250 mg per 5 mL (oral suspension)

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg three times daily (or 875 mg twice daily for severe infections). Children: 20–40 mg/kg/day in three divided doses. Reconstitute with water per instructions on the label. Shake well before use. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhea
• nausea
• and vomiting (common).
• Skin rash (common
• especially in patients with mononucleosis).
• Allergic reactions
• including anaphylaxis (rare but potentially severe).
• Clostridioides difficile
• associated diarrhea (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with cephalosporin allergy due to possible cross
• reactivity.
• Prolonged use may cause superinfection with resistant organisms.
• Inform physician of any history of allergic reactions.
• Keep out of reach of children.
