Cimetidine 400 mg

Indication

Used for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and conditions of abnormal acid secretion (e.g. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome). Acts as an H2-receptor antagonist to reduce gastric acid secretion.

Ingredients

• Cimetidine 400 mg

Direction

Adults: 400 mg twice daily (morning and evening) or 800 mg once at night for 4–8 weeks for ulcer treatment. For GERD: 400 mg twice daily. Dosage and duration should be as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Headache
• dizziness.
• Diarrhoea.
• Gynecomastia with long
• term use (rare).
• Confusion
• agitation (particularly in elderly or renally impaired).
• Elevated liver enzymes (rare).

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment
• dose reduction may be required.
• May inhibit hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes
• numerous drug interactions (e.g. warfarin
• phenytoin
• theophylline).
• Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to cimetidine.
• Use with caution in elderly patients.
• Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
