Esome 40 mg

Indication

Used for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive oesophagitis, and as part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication. Also used for prevention of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers and management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Ingredients

• Esomeprazole 40 mg

Direction

Adults: 40 mg once daily before meals, typically for 4–8 weeks. For maintenance or H. pylori eradication, dose and duration per physician's instruction. Swallow capsule whole; do not crush or chew.

Side effects

• Headache.
• Abdominal pain
• nausea
• diarrhoea
• flatulence.
• Dry mouth.
• Rare: hypomagnesaemia
• bone fracture risk with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Long
• term use associated with hypomagnesaemia and vitamin B12 deficiency.
• May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy
• exclude before initiating therapy.
• Reduce dose in severe hepatic impairment.
• Drug interactions: reduces efficacy of clopidogrel
• avoid coadministration with atazanavir.
• Keep out of reach of children.
