Indication
Used for treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive oesophagitis, and as part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication. Also used for prevention of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers and management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Ingredients
- Esomeprazole 40 mg
Direction
Adults: 40 mg once daily before meals, typically for 4–8 weeks. For maintenance or H. pylori eradication, dose and duration per physician's instruction. Swallow capsule whole; do not crush or chew.
Side effects
- Headache.
- Abdominal pain
- nausea
- diarrhoea
- flatulence.
- Dry mouth.
- Rare: hypomagnesaemia
- bone fracture risk with prolonged use.
Precautions
- Long
- term use associated with hypomagnesaemia and vitamin B12 deficiency.
- May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy
- exclude before initiating therapy.
- Reduce dose in severe hepatic impairment.
- Drug interactions: reduces efficacy of clopidogrel
- avoid coadministration with atazanavir.
- Keep out of reach of children.
