Indication
Used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), healing of erosive oesophagitis, and maintenance of healed oesophagitis. Also used in H. pylori eradication regimens and prevention of NSAID-associated ulcers.
Ingredients
- Esomeprazole 20 mg
Direction
Adults: 20 mg once daily before meals for 4 weeks (erosive oesophagitis) or as directed by a physician. For maintenance therapy, 20 mg once daily. Swallow capsule whole.
Side effects
- Headache.
- Nausea
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain
- flatulence.
- Rare: hypomagnesaemia
- bone fracture risk with prolonged use.
Precautions
- Long
- term use may cause hypomagnesaemia and vitamin B12 deficiency.
- May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy.
- Reduce dose in severe hepatic impairment.
- Avoid coadministration with atazanavir or clopidogrel.
- Keep out of reach of children.
