Loprasim 2 mg

Indication

Used for the symptomatic treatment of acute non-specific diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Reduces intestinal motility and fluid secretion.

Ingredients

• Loperamide Hydrochloride 2 mg

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 4 mg (2 capsules/tablets), then 2 mg after each loose stool. Maximum 16 mg per day. Children 8–12 years: 2 mg three times daily. Discontinue if no improvement after 48 hours.

Side effects

• Constipation
• abdominal cramps.
• Nausea
• vomiting.
• Dizziness.
• Rare: paralytic ileus
• toxic megacolon (with prolonged use in inflammatory bowel disease).

Precautions

• Do not use in conditions where inhibition of peristalsis should be avoided (e.g. acute dysentery
• pseudomembranous colitis).
• Not recommended for children under 8 years.
• Consult a doctor if diarrhoea is bloody
• associated with fever
• or persists beyond 48 hours.
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment.
• Ensure adequate hydration and electrolyte replacement.
• Keep out of reach of children.
