Cefiget DS 200mg/5mL

Indication

Cefiget DS (double-strength cefixime 200 mg/5 ml oral suspension) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for susceptible bacterial infections including otitis media, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, and urinary tract infections.

Ingredients

• Cefixime 200 mg per 5 ml

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years or over 50 kg: 5 ml (200 mg) once daily or 2.5 ml (100 mg) twice daily. Children (weight-based): 4 mg/kg twice daily or 8 mg/kg once daily. Shake well before each dose. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea (most common).
• Nausea
• abdominal pain.
• Headache.
• Skin rash (uncommon).
• Hypersensitivity reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to cephalosporins or penicillins (cross
• sensitivity possible).
• Use with caution in renal impairment
• dose adjustment may be required.
• Shake well before each dose.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• May cause pseudomembranous colitis
• discontinue if severe diarrhoea occurs.
