VIREST 5% CREAM Aciclovir 5%

Indication

VIREST 5% CREAM (aciclovir 5%) is a topical antiviral agent for the treatment and management of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections of the skin and lips, including recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis).

Ingredients

• Aciclovir (Acyclovir) 5% w/w

Direction

Apply to the affected area 5 times daily (approximately every 4 hours, omitting night-time dose) for 5 days. Start treatment as early as possible at the first sign of an outbreak.

Side effects

• Transient burning
• stinging
• or mild pain on application.
• Dryness or flaking.
• Erythema (redness).
• Contact dermatitis (rare).

Precautions

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Do not apply inside the mouth.
• Immunocompromised patients should seek medical advice.
• Not recommended in pregnancy unless clearly necessary.
