Indication
VIREST 5% CREAM (aciclovir 5%) is a topical antiviral agent for the treatment and management of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections of the skin and lips, including recurrent cold sores (herpes labialis).
Ingredients
- Aciclovir (Acyclovir) 5% w/w
Direction
Apply to the affected area 5 times daily (approximately every 4 hours, omitting night-time dose) for 5 days. Start treatment as early as possible at the first sign of an outbreak.
Side effects
- Transient burning
- stinging
- or mild pain on application.
- Dryness or flaking.
- Erythema (redness).
- Contact dermatitis (rare).
Precautions
- For external use only.
- Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
- Do not apply inside the mouth.
- Immunocompromised patients should seek medical advice.
- Not recommended in pregnancy unless clearly necessary.
