Indication
CIPROLAR-FC (ciprofloxacin film-coated tablet) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, and skin/soft tissue infections.
Ingredients
- Ciprofloxacin hydrochloride 500 mg (film
- coated)
Direction
Adults: 500 mg twice daily (every 12 hours) for most infections. Take with a full glass of water; may be taken with or without food. Complete the full prescribed course.
Side effects
- Nausea
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain.
- Headache
- dizziness.
- Rash (uncommon).
- Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare
- more common in elderly).
- Photosensitivity (avoid excessive sun exposure).
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
- Avoid antacids containing aluminium/magnesium within 2 hours of a dose.
- Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or tendon disorders.
- Risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture
- particularly in the elderly and with corticosteroid use.
- Not recommended in children and adolescents (except for specific indications).
- Adequate hydration is important during therapy.
- Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
