Supirocin (Mupirocin Ointment USP) Mupirocin 2% w/w

Indication

Supirocin (mupirocin 2% ointment) is a topical antibiotic indicated for the treatment of primary and secondary skin infections caused by susceptible organisms including Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) and Streptococcus pyogenes, such as impetigo, folliculitis, and infected minor wounds.

Ingredients

• Mupirocin 2% w/w

Direction

Apply a small amount to the affected area 3 times daily for up to 10 days. Cover with a sterile dressing if necessary. Wash hands before and after application.

Side effects

• Mild burning or stinging on application.
• Itching or local irritation.
• Contact dermatitis (rare).

Precautions

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
• Do not apply to large areas of broken skin.
• Do not use for longer than 10 days unless directed by a physician.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment (formulation may contain polyethylene glycol).
• Discontinue if sensitisation or irritation develops.
