Burnsil® Silver Sulfadiazine USP 1% w/w

Indication

Burnsil® cream is used for prevention and treatment of wound sepsis in patients with second- and third-degree burns. It is also used for infected skin lesions, pressure ulcers, and leg ulcers.

Ingredients

• Silver Sulfadiazine 1% w/w (10 mg per g)

Direction

Apply to the affected area(s) once or twice daily using sterile technique. The cream should be applied to a thickness of approximately 1.5 mm and maintained continuously. Dressings may or may not be used.

Side effects

• Transient leucopenia (commonly reported
• usually reversible).
• Skin burning or itching at site of application.
• Argyria (greyish skin discoloration) with prolonged use (rare).
• Allergic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to silver sulfadiazine or sulfonamides.
• Not recommended for use in newborns
• premature infants
• or near term in pregnant women due to risk of kernicterus.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Monitor blood counts with prolonged use.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
