Oestrogel® 80 g

Indication

Oestrogel® is used for hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women for treatment of symptoms due to oestrogen deficiency, including vasomotor symptoms (hot flushes, night sweats) caused by natural or surgical menopause.

Ingredients

• Estradiol (as estradiol hemihydrate) 0.6 mg per g (0.06% w/w gel)
• each metered dose delivers 0.75 mg estradiol in 1.25 g gel

Direction

Adults: apply 2 measures (2.5 g gel, delivering 1.5 mg estradiol) once daily to a large area of clean, dry, intact skin (inner arm, thigh, or abdomen). Allow to dry for 2–3 minutes before covering. Rotate application sites. Adjust dose as directed by physician.

Side effects

• Breast tenderness or enlargement.
• Irregular vaginal bleeding or spotting.
• Headache or migraine.
• Nausea.
• Skin reactions at the application site.
• Fluid retention or bloating.
• Increased risk of thromboembolic events with long
• term use.

Precautions

• Do not use in women with known or suspected breast cancer
• oestrogen
• dependent tumours
• or undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding.
• Do not use in women with a history of venous thromboembolism
• active liver disease
• or porphyria.
• Use with caution in women with risk factors for thrombosis
• cardiovascular disease
• hypertension
• or diabetes.
• Regular medical monitoring is required during HRT.
• Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
• Do not allow other people (especially men and children) to come into contact with skin area where gel was applied.
• Keep out of reach of children.
