Indication
Amoxicillin suspension is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used for treatment of bacterial infections including upper and lower respiratory tract infections (otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, and skin infections.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin 250 mg per 5 mL (oral suspension)
Direction
Adults: 250–500 mg three times daily (or 875 mg twice daily for severe infections). Children: 20–40 mg/kg/day in three divided doses. Reconstitute with water per instructions on the label. Shake well before use. Complete the full course.
Side effects
- Diarrhea
- nausea
- and vomiting (common).
- Skin rash (common
- especially in patients with mononucleosis).
- Allergic reactions
- including anaphylaxis (rare but potentially severe).
- Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhea (rare).
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics.
- Use with caution in patients with cephalosporin allergy due to possible cross
- reactivity.
- Prolonged use may cause superinfection with resistant organisms.
- Inform physician of any history of allergic reactions.
- Keep out of reach of children.
