Indication
Diabetmin Retard is an extended-release metformin tablet used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, either alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
Ingredients
- Metformin Hydrochloride 850 mg (modified
- release/retard tablet)
Direction
Adults: initially 850 mg once daily with evening meal; increase gradually to usual dose of 850–1700 mg twice daily with meals. Maximum 2550 mg/day in divided doses. Swallow whole — do not crush or chew.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea (less common than immediate
- release
- take with food).
- Metallic taste.
- Lactic acidosis (rare but serious).
- Vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use.
- Hypoglycaemia does not occur with metformin monotherapy.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min)
- hepatic impairment
- or conditions associated with tissue hypoxia.
- Temporarily discontinue before procedures using contrast media.
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake.
- Monitor renal function periodically.
- Keep out of reach of children.
