Twynsta® 40 mg / 5 mg

Indication

Twynsta® is a combination antihypertensive product containing telmisartan (an angiotensin II receptor blocker) and amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker). It is used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults as add-on or replacement therapy when blood pressure is not adequately controlled by either agent alone.

Ingredients

• Telmisartan 40 mg
• Amlodipine 5 mg

Direction

Adults: one tablet (40 mg/5 mg) once daily. May be titrated up to 80 mg/10 mg once daily as needed. Take at the same time each day, with or without food.

Side effects

• Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling).
• Dizziness.
• Headache.
• Upper respiratory tract infections.
• Hyperkalaemia (with telmisartan).
• Flushing.
• Nausea (uncommon).

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to telmisartan
• amlodipine
• or any dihydropyridine.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy (second and third trimester) due to teratogenic risk from telmisartan.
• Do not use in patients with biliary obstructive disorders or severe hepatic impairment.
• Monitor renal function and potassium levels in patients with renal impairment.
• Use with caution in patients with aortic or mitral stenosis.
• Keep out of reach of children.
