Phosphalugel 12.38 g per 20 g sachet (20% colloidal aluminium phosphate gel)

Indication

Antacid for symptomatic relief of stomach or oesophageal pain, burning, and acidity.

Ingredients

• Colloidal aluminium phosphate gel 20%
• 12.38 g per 20 g sachet

Direction

Take by mouth when pain occurs or as directed by a doctor. Usual dose: 1–2 sachets per dose, 2–3 times daily after meals or during symptoms. Do not usually exceed 6 sachets per day. Separate from other oral medicines by about 2 hours.

Side effects

• Occasional constipation may occur
• especially in bedridden or older people. Sorbitol may cause gastrointestinal discomfort or a mild laxative effect. Excessive use may cause constipation or intestinal obstruction
• especially in people with kidney impairment.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to the active ingredient or an excipient. Not indicated in advanced chronic kidney disease. Each sachet contains sorbitol
• people with hereditary fructose intolerance must not use it. Sorbitol may cause gastrointestinal discomfort or a mild laxative effect. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Separate antacids from other oral medicines by about 2 hours. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist for 7 days or are accompanied by fever or vomiting.
