Amitriptyline Hydrochloride 25 mg

Indication

Treatment of depressive illness, nocturnal enuresis in children, neuropathic pain, and migraine prophylaxis.

Ingredients

• Amitriptyline hydrochloride 25 mg

Direction

Depression — Adults: Initially 25 mg two to three times daily or 50–75 mg as a single night-time dose; usual maintenance 50–150 mg/day. Elderly: 10–25 mg/day, adjusted cautiously. Neuropathic pain — 10–25 mg at bedtime, titrated upward. Dosing must be individualised under physician supervision.

Side effects

• Dry mouth
• constipation
• blurred vision (anticholinergic effects).
• Sedation and drowsiness.
• Postural hypotension.
• Weight gain.
• Tachycardia.
• Urinary retention.
• Confusion (especially in the elderly).

Precautions

• Do not use with MAOIs — allow at least 14 days after stopping MAOIs.
• Contraindicated in recent myocardial infarction and arrhythmias.
• Risk of QT prolongation.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation — taper dose gradually.
• Risk of suicidality
• especially in young adults at treatment initiation.
• Avoid alcohol.
• May impair ability to drive.
• Keep out of reach of children.
