Indication

Treatment of hypertension, stable angina pectoris, and stable chronic heart failure as adjunct to standard therapy.

Ingredients

• Bisoprolol fumarate 2.5 mg

Direction

Adults — Hypertension/Angina: Usually 5–10 mg once daily, starting at 2.5–5 mg once daily in elderly or sensitive patients. Heart failure: Initiate at 1.25 mg once daily, titrating gradually to target 10 mg once daily. Take at the same time each day, with or without food. Do not crush or chew modified-release formulations.

Side effects

• Bradycardia.
• Fatigue and dizziness.
• Cold extremities.
• Hypotension.
• Bronchospasm (in susceptible patients).
• Nausea and diarrhoea.
• Headache.

Precautions

• Do not stop abruptly — may precipitate severe angina or myocardial infarction
• taper gradually.
• Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock
• decompensated heart failure
• second or third degree AV block
• and sick sinus syndrome.
• Use with caution in asthma and COPD — may cause bronchospasm.
• May mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients.
• Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly.
• Keep out of reach of children.
