Diabetmin 1000mg 1000 mg

Indication

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents or insulin, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone do not achieve adequate glycaemic control.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg

Direction

Adults: 1000 mg twice daily with or after meals. May start with 500 mg two to three times daily and titrate upward. Maximum dose 3000 mg/day. Extended-release tablets should be swallowed whole. Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and diarrhoea (usually transient
• reduced by taking with food).
• Metallic taste.
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious).
• Vitamin B12 deficiency (long
• term use).
• Anorexia.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in eGFR <30 mL/min (renal failure) — risk of lactic acidosis.
• Withhold before and 48 hours after iodinated contrast media administration.
• Contraindicated in hepatic impairment and excessive alcohol intake.
• Monitor renal function regularly.
• Risk of vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term use — monitor levels periodically.
• Hold on day of surgery and restart only when adequate oral intake and renal function confirmed.
• Keep out of reach of children.
