Indication
Treatment of acute diarrhoea in adults and children above 2 years, in addition to oral rehydration. Symptomatic treatment of chronic functional diarrhoea in adults. Symptomatic treatment of pain associated with functional bowel diseases in adults.
Ingredients
- Diosmectite 3 g
Direction
Mix the contents of the sachet with water just before use. Acute diarrhoea - children over 2 years: 4 sachets per day for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day for 4 days; adults: on average 3 sachets per day for 7 days (the daily dose may be doubled at the start of treatment). Other indications - adults: on average 3 sachets (9 g) per day. For adults, dilute the sachet in half a glass of water; for children, it can be mixed in a feeding bottle with 50 ml of water or into semi-solid food.
Side effects
- Constipation is the most common side effect (about 7% of adults and 1% of children)
- if it occurs
- stop treatment and restart at a lower dose if needed. Vomiting
- rash
- hives
- itching and allergic reactions including swelling (angioedema) may occur. Stop use and consult a doctor or pharmacist if an allergic reaction occurs.
Precautions
- Do not use if you are allergic to diosmectite or any of the ingredients.
- Do not give to babies and children under 2 years of age.
- Oral rehydration is essential in acute diarrhoea
- especially in children
- drink plenty of fluids.
- Use with caution if you have a history of severe chronic constipation
- avoid long
- term use.
- Take other medicines at least 2 hours apart from Smecta
- as it may reduce their absorption.
- Contains glucose and sucrose: not recommended in fructose intolerance
- glucose
- galactose malabsorption or sucrase
- isomaltase deficiency. Contains a small amount of ethanol.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
