Indication
Treatment of hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on losartan or hydrochlorothiazide monotherapy.
Ingredients
- Losartan potassium 50 mg
- Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Direction
Adults: 1 tablet (Losartan 50 mg + HCTZ 12.5 mg) once daily. May be increased to Losartan 100 mg + HCTZ 25 mg once daily if needed. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Dizziness.
- Hypokalaemia.
- Increased serum creatinine.
- Headache.
- Cough (rare
- less than ACE inhibitors).
- Hyperuricaemia.
- Fatigue.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in pregnancy — can cause fetal injury or death.
- Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min) and anuria.
- Avoid concurrent use with ACE inhibitors or aliskiren in diabetic patients.
- Monitor serum electrolytes
- renal function
- and blood pressure regularly.
- Hypokalaemia risk from hydrochlorothiazide component.
- May precipitate gout.
- Keep out of reach of children.
