Indication
Treatment of intestinal helminth (worm) infections including ascariasis, enterobiasis (pinworm), hookworm, trichuriasis, strongyloidiasis, and treatment of neurocysticercosis and hydatid disease.
Ingredients
- Albendazole 200 mg per 5 mL
Direction
Intestinal worm infections — Adults and children over 2 years: 400 mg (10 mL) as a single dose. Repeat after 2–3 weeks if required. Hydatid disease/Neurocysticercosis — 400 mg (10 mL) twice daily for 28 days; may be repeated after a 14-day interval. Shake well before use.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Abdominal pain.
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Elevated liver enzymes (with prolonged use).
- Reversible alopecia (with high
- dose treatment).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in pregnancy — use effective contraception during treatment and for 1 month after.
- Not recommended for children under 1 year.
- Monitor liver function tests with long
- term or high
- dose treatment.
- May cause bone marrow suppression — monitor blood counts with prolonged use.
- Keep out of reach of children.
