Ketonish 200 mg

Indication

Oral azole antifungal for the treatment of systemic fungal infections (such as blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, chromomycosis and paracoccidioidomycosis) and of severe or resistant fungal infections of the skin, nails and mucous membranes (including chronic candidiasis) when other antifungal treatments are not suitable or have failed.

Ingredients

• Ketoconazole USP 200 mg

Direction

Oral route. As directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 200 mg (1 tablet) once daily with food, which may be increased to 400 mg once daily if needed. Treatment duration depends on the infection. See package insert for full information.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain or diarrhoea
• Headache or dizziness
• Itching or skin rash
• Liver injury
• which can be serious: stop use and seek medical help if yellow skin or eyes
• dark urine
• pale stools or unusual tiredness occur
• Hormonal effects such as breast enlargement or reduced adrenal function with prolonged use
• Allergic reactions
• stop use and seek medical help

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to ketoconazole or other azole antifungals
• Do not use in liver disease
• oral ketoconazole can cause serious liver damage and liver function should be monitored during treatment
• Many drug interactions: do not combine with certain medicines (e.g. some statins
• cisapride
• quinidine
• dofetilide) that can cause serious heart rhythm problems
• tell your doctor about all medicines you take
• Avoid alcohol during treatment
• Antacids and acid
• reducing medicines lower absorption
• take with food
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
• Keep out of reach of children
