Amloswi 5 mg

Indication

Calcium-channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to prevent chest pain due to coronary artery disease (chronic stable angina and vasospastic/Prinzmetal angina); may be used alone or with other cardiovascular medicines.

Ingredients

• Amlodipine besilate USP equivalent to amlodipine 5 mg

Direction

Oral route, dosage as directed by the physician. Usual adult dose: 5 mg once daily, which the doctor may increase to a maximum of 10 mg once daily; elderly or patients with liver impairment may start at 2.5 mg. Take at the same time each day, with or without food. Read the enclosed patient information leaflet.

Side effects

• Swelling of the ankles or feet (oedema)
• Headache

• Flushing or feeling hot
• Palpitations
• Nausea or abdominal pain
• Rarely
• gum swelling
• low blood pressure or allergic reactions
• seek medical help if severe
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist if any side effect is troublesome

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines
• in severe low blood pressure
• shock
• severe aortic stenosis or unstable heart failure after a heart attack
• Use with caution in liver impairment
• heart failure and in the elderly
• Do not stop suddenly without consulting the doctor
• May cause dizziness
• use caution when driving or operating machinery
• Avoid large amounts of grapefruit juice
• tell the doctor about other medicines (e.g. simvastatin
• ketoconazole
• clarithromycin)
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
• Keep out of the reach and sight of children
