Indication
Broad-spectrum antibiotic (amoxicillin with the beta-lactamase inhibitor clavulanic acid) for bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis, bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental and bone/joint infections.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin (as amoxicillin trihydrate) 500 mg
- Clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) 125 mg
Direction
Oral route, at the start of a meal. Adults and children weighing 40 kg or more: 1 tablet 2–3 times a day as prescribed, usually for 5–14 days. Swallow whole with water. Read the leaflet inside carefully and follow the doctor's prescription.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting or diarrhoea
- Abdominal pain or upset stomach
- Skin rash or itching
- Oral or vaginal thrush (candidiasis)
- Rarely
- severe allergic reactions (swelling
- difficulty breathing)
- stop use and seek medical help immediately
- Severe or bloody diarrhoea may indicate antibiotic
- associated colitis
- contact a doctor
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to penicillins
- cephalosporins or any ingredient
- Prescription medicine: use only as directed by a doctor
- Do not use if you previously had jaundice or liver problems with amoxicillin/clavulanate
- Complete the full course even if you feel better
- Use with caution in kidney or liver impairment
- Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
- Keep out of reach of children
