Sodium Chloride-OCP 0.9%

Indication

Isotonic intravenous infusion for fluid and sodium replacement in dehydration, hypovolaemia and sodium/chloride depletion (e.g. from vomiting, diarrhoea or surgery), and as a vehicle/diluent for compatible intravenous medicines.

Ingredients

• Sodium chloride 0.9 g per 100 ml (0.9%)
• Water for injection q.s.

Direction

For intravenous infusion only, administered by a health professional. Dose and infusion rate are determined by the doctor according to age, weight and clinical condition. Inspect before use: use only if the solution is clear and the container and seal are undamaged. Discard any unused portion.

Side effects

• Pain
• swelling
• redness or phlebitis at the infusion site
• Fluid overload or oedema with large volumes or rapid infusion
• High sodium or chloride levels and acidosis with excessive use
• Fever or infection at the injection site if not given aseptically

Precautions

• For intravenous use under medical supervision only
• Use only if the solution is clear and the container and seal are undamaged
• Use with caution in heart failure

• Monitor fluid balance and electrolytes during prolonged or large
• volume infusion
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use if pregnant or breastfeeding
• Keep out of reach of children
